Stay warm this winter with 3M™ Window Film

Winter is here and according to the Farmers’ Almanac, the worst is yet to come. The 2022 report indicates that Ontario is in for an “unreasonably” cold snow-filled season. December is expected to begin “unreasonably” cold with snowfall and rain, and in January we may see one of the “coldest arctic outbreaks” in recent years.

As the temperatures begin to drop and days turn shorter you might start to crank up your home’s heating system. While this may help create a warm and comfortable atmosphere at first, too much of it can result in jaw-dropping energy bills. And with Canadian home energy costs set to spike this winter, cranking up your furnace may not be the best method of action, especially since a large percentage of heat is lost through windows and doors.

Fortunately, there are plenty of practical ways you can keep yourself and your home a little bit warmer this winter:

Layer Up

Dressing in layers is a simple and effective way to keep yourself warm indoors and out.

For optimal insulation, you should have a base layer, a middle layer, and an outer layer. It’s also important to ensure layers are snug-but not tight- to allow air to circulate.

Stay Active

When we move, we produce a considerable amount of body heat that makes the air around us feel warmer than it actually is.

If you find that you’re getting chilly, move around. It doesn’t have to be strenuous, even light exercise can help keep you warm.

Stop the draft

If you feel cold air seeping beneath your door every time you walk by it’s time to take action. You can seal the gap with a “door snake,” a long thin cloth sack filled with dried peas or rice, or install a door sweep, a long, thin nylon attachment that goes on the inside bottom edge of your door.

Install Window Films

While the above hacks might provide some relief in the short term, the temperature in your home will remain cool unless you do something to counteract the insufficient insulation.

Thankfully Convenience Group has just the solution–3M™ Window Films. Arming your windows with these energy-efficient films keeps the heat inside while still letting the light shine through because let’s face it, the winter is dark enough as it is.

How Do Window Films Work?

Before we delve into why 3M™ Window Films are effective in keeping you comfortable and warm this season, it’s important to understand how they work.

Solar radiation, also known as solar energy, is divided into three components: visible light, which we can see, ultraviolet rays, which we cannot see, and infrared radiation, which we experience as heat.

When solar radiation strikes glass, window film works to block damaging ultraviolet rays while managing the light and heat that transfers through the glass. The amount of light and heat that is able to pass through the window, depends on the type of film installed.

Why use 3M™ Window Film to beat the cold?

In addition to keeping you warm and cozy, there are several other reasons to consider installing window film in your home this winter:

Increases Your Home’s Energy Efficiency

Did you know that more of your home’s energy is lost through its windows than through any other source? Windows and doors account for approximately 18 to 20 percent of the heat loss in your home during the winter.

3M™ Window Film stops this from happening. The films provide an invisible thermal shield that prevents the heat inside your home from escaping through your windows, allowing you to save energy and money. In fact, energy-saving window film can lower your overall energy costs by up to 40 percent.

You can always trust 3M™ Window Films to keep warmth inside during the colder months.

Reduced HVAC Use

The more you use your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) units, the more likely you’ll have to invest in maintenance and system replacement. Fortunately, there are ways you can extend the lifespan of your HVAC system, like installing window films!

Window films trap heat indoors, minimize cold spots and create a warm and cozy atmosphere, lessening the need for additional heat. This provides your furnace with a much-deserved break, and results in less maintenance, saving you even more money.

An Energy-Efficient Alternative to Window Replacement

If you’re looking to improve your home’s energy efficiency this winter, chances are you’ve probably thought about replacing your windows. But as you know, doing so does not come cheap. According to The Home Depot, the average price of a new window ranges anywhere from $800 to $4,000.

3M™ Window Film provides an affordable alternative! The films smoothly adhere to the interior of your existing windows and can be installed in a few days at about one-tenth the cost of window replacement. And since removing old windows isn’t necessary, there’s also less disruption in your home during installation.

Provides Extra Insulation

Window film drastically strengthens the insulation properties of glass. Installing window film can provide a single-paned window with the same insulating power as double-paned glass. In fact, research suggests that window film can improve a window’s insulating properties by as much as 92 percent. This improved insulation significantly lessens winter heat loss and helps with cooling in the summertime.

Retains Natural Light

Winter can be a little dull and dreary at times, you know it, we know it. The last thing you want to do is make this season darker by installing insulated shades and blinds.

Installing window film provides you with the best of both worlds. You can let all the natural light seep through your windows while still managing to keep out the cold air and protect against damaging UV rays.

Provides Protection From a Closer Winter Sun

Speaking of UV rays, despite what you may think, during the winter, the Earth is closer to the sun, which means there’s even more potential for these powerful rays to wreak havoc.

By blocking 99 percent of harmful UV rays, 3M™ Window Films provide you and your beloved valuables the protection you need.

Window films also reduce glare, which can be more of a problem in the winter as UV rays are reflected upward off the bright snow.

Reflect and Disperses heat

Window films reflect solar heat back into your home, minimizing cold spots and providing a more consistent interior temperature so you and your loved ones can feel comfortable all season long.

Year-round Energy Savings

Window films do more than just keep the cold out, they lead to significant year-round savings!

Many see positive returns in as little as three years due to cost savings. However, payback periods ultimately depend on the type of glass, type of film, cost of heating, demand rates, cost of installation and other variables.

With reduced energy bills, you’ll have more money in your pocket and who knows, maybe you’ll finally be able to book that trip after all!

Take Back Your Space With Our Temperature Controlling 3M Window Films

Are you avoiding certain areas of your home because they’re too cold? Take back your space by installing 3M™ Thinsulate Climate Control Window Film. It insulates your windows against the excessive cold so that you can enjoy the beauty of natural light in comfort, all season long.

3M™ Thinsulate Energy Saving Low-E Window Film

For decades, insulation has been used in the walls and ceilings of our homes to help control the flow of hot or cold air between the interior and exterior. The 3M™ Thinsulate Climate Control Window Film works pretty much the same way, but at a more advanced level by actively prohibiting external air from altering the internal temperature of your home.

3M™ Thinsulate Climate Control Window Film is a low-emissivity (Low-E) window film that helps improve the insulation value of a typical single-pane window, similar to that of a double-pane window. It can also enhance the functionality and insulation factor of double-pane windows, similar to that of a triple-pane window.

Virtually invisible, the film has minimal impact on the appearance of your windows yet is still able to help protect your furniture, floors, upholstery, and artwork from harmful UV rays.

How 3M™ Thinsulate Window Film Works

On average, a single-pane window loses around 20 times as much heat as the same area in an adjacent well-insulated wall. 3M™ Thinsulate Climate Control Window Film provides an added layer of protection against the elements. It retains heat and prevents cold air from penetrating the surface of your windowpanes, ensuring your home stays warm all winter!

Although today’s blog is solely focused on winter, it’s worth mentioning that the film’s invisible insulation solar reflecting technology also helps block the sun’s heat from counteracting your air conditioning, which helps your home stay cool in the summertime.

You can always count on 3M™ Thinsulate Climate Control Window Film to keep you and your family comfortable in all four seasons.

Five Benefits of the 3M™ Thinsulate Climate Control Window Film

Increased Energy Efficiency

This insulating window film helps reduce the amount of air that enters and escapes your home, prompting your windows to become more energy efficient and thus significantly reducing your monthly energy costs.

Allows you to maintain the appearance and structural integrity of your windows

If you’re at all concerned about how 3M™ Thinsulate Climate Control will affect the appearance and structural integrity of your windows, don’t worry. These films are designed to be virtually invisible so that the overall aesthetic of your home remains unaltered.

Let’s you enjoy the view all season long

With 3M™ Thinsulate Climate Control Window Films, you can keep your blinds or drapes open as often as you want. The window film lets natural light in while keeping the weather outside where it belongs.

Reduces furniture fading

It can be easy to forget that even in the winter, the sun produces harmful UV rays that can cause serious harm to you, your loved ones, and your home.

In fact, your furniture actually fades quicker in the winter. Even on cloudy days, UV rays are able to travel past the clouds and cause damage to your beloved possessions.

Although 3M™ Thinsulate Climate Control Window Films cannot completely prevent fading, they come exceptionally close. Designed to reduce the effects of solar heat and the sun’s destructive rays on your precious furnishings, the film protects your investment and keeps your home’s interior looking beautiful for the foreseeable future.
